Please join us on June 3rd at 9am in Kensington for the fourth annual Colleen's BA 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk to benefit the Colleen Mitchel Memorial Fund.

The Fund was established in memory of Colleen Mitchel, who was born with biliary atresia in 1993, had a liver transplant at 7 months old, and died in 2013 at 19 years old from complications due to liver disease, while awaiting another liver transplant. Colleen graduated from Grace Episcopal Day School in 2005, Walter Johnson High School in 2011, and was attending the University of Michigan.

Proceeds from the event will support biliary atresia (BA) research at the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Liver Center in Baltimore, MD and promote organ donation awareness in our community.

For details on the Run and to register, please go to www.colleensba5k.org.  Also please share/like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ColleensBA5K.   Thanks for your support and we hope to see you on June 3rd!

Field Day will be here soon!  The festivities begin on the large blacktop at 8:45 am. Weather permitting, Field Day is a water-filled fun morning. Students should wear clothing that can get wet. Girls may wear a one-piece bathing suit under their clothing.  Boys may wear swim trunks and a shirt.  They must also wear athletic shoes or water shoes and bring a towel. For safety reasons, no sandals or flip-flops will be allowed. Snacks and water will be provided.

Field Day ends at 11:45 am, and the students will be dismissed at noon. Extended day is available to previously contracted students until 3:00 pm.

Parent volunteers are needed for set- up and to run the Kindergarten- Grade 5 stations. Preschool and prekindergarten are not asking for parent volunteers, except for clean-up. Please email Ms. Rutledge at arutledge@geds.org if you can help out or if you have any questions.

Lights! Camera! Action! On May 18, students in Grades 1-5 will perform together in a two-act musical entitled “Pied Piper, the Musical.” The show starts at 7:00 pm. The doors will be opened to the audience at 6:30 pm, at which time Grade 4 and 5 students can enter the building via the outside library door; all others should use the main entrance. Students in Grades 1-3 should be escorted by a parent/guardian to their classroom.

Starting at 7:00 pm, get ready for a little over an hour of singing, dancing, and acting by our fabulous Grace performers.

We can't wait!

In 2015, Grace announced a Strategic Plan with three key areas of focus. One of these areas includes an emphasis on community and relationships.  As part of this initiative and as a way to strengthen our connection to area schools while also generating additional non-tuition revenue for the Grace program, the School will lease two classrooms to The Oneness-Family School beginning in August 2017 as they prepare to open the first DC area Montessori High School. Oneness will use two under-utilized classroom spaces for two years on the north end of our campus where they will also have their own entrance. Oneness anticipates welcoming a small cohort of students in its first year.

We are excited to have this opportunity to welcome more educators and students on campus!

Please join us for the DC Race for Hope on May 7, 2017 at Freedom Plaza to honor and remember our friend Drew Nealley. This year marks the Drew Nealley Team’s 11th year of participation in the DC Race for Hope. Our team’s namesake and guiding spirit was an exuberant seven year-old who lost his personal battle with a glioblastoma brain tumor in 2006. He loved attending Grace Episcopal Day School, where he developed strong bonds with classmates, teachers and administrators. Many of these friends continue to participate in the Race year after year. During the past ten years, Drew Nealley teammates have run and walked over a thousand miles to raise $206,060 in support of brain tumor research.

Please join us to celebrate our 11th anniversary by signing up as a team member or making a generous donation toward our goal. Registration is available online  through April 30th. Online registration is $20 for children 5 and under, $40 for walkers and untimed runners and $45 for timed participants.

New team members also receive a complimentary Drew Nealley team t-shirt and cap. Please direct any questions to team captains Sarah Nealley at sarah.nealley@gmail.com, Karen Smith at kgpsmith@aol.com or Lauren Simpson at wlsimpson@msn.com. Thank you and we hope to see you May 7th.

Grace Episcopal Day School will provide every student the opportunity for academic excellence in a caring, nurturing, moral environment that embraces diversity and promotes creativity, self-confidence, and service to others.
