Grace Students Take Top Honors at History Day Competition

Read about Grace students at the History Day Competition in the Silver Spring/Takoma Park Gazette Article.

On Saturday, March 15th, the Montgomery County Historical Society held their eighth annual Montgomery County History Day Competition, in association with the National History Day Competition. Eleven of the twenty-three sixth graders from Grace Episcopal Day School participated in this year's competition. There were eight special prizes handed out by various local and national organizations.

Grace students captured three of the eighth special prizes that were awarded on Saturday, beating out 125 entries from approximately 20 other schools that were represented from the county. GEDS received the following prizes:

  • Local History
  • Expression of African-American History
  • African-American Education

One set of judges were so impressed by their performance that the students were extended a special invitation to perform for the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. Founded by Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1916, this organization is nationally and internationally recognized as one of the world's top organization for outstanding scholarship in the area of African and African-American history and culture.

On a related note, a 2007 Grace alumnae, captured the top prize in the Junior Individual Exhibit and will compete at the state level.

Congratulations to all the participants!
