Service Learning

Outreach programs at Grace School are planned and prepared by the faculty and staff. These activities include but are not limited to: Thanksgiving collections for the needy, a cooperative program with Grace Church(http://www.graceepiscopalchurch.org/index.html) that provides sandwiches for the homeless, activities with senior citizens of the community, community clean-up efforts, a partnership with St. Mathieu's Episcopal School in Haiti, and other individual grade level programs are planned by teachers each year. This provides students opportunities to develop good habits of service and respect for others.

Canned Food Drive

The canned food drive, sponsored by the Student Council, started on November 2 nd and ends on November 13 th. You can donate canned foods such as soups and vegetables. All of the donations will go to Sheppard’s Table to help feed the homeless. The box is located by the front door of Grace Episcopal Day School, Kensington campus. All donations are appreciated. Thank you.

Supplies for Honduras

Students, parents, and teachers at both Grace campuses collected several big boxes full of school and first aid supplies for children in Honduras as part of a project sponsored by the Student Council. fifth grade teacher, Bryan Ellison, visited schools in the poor nation and shared with the Grace family about how much the kids there are in need of our help. Student Council members and their advisor, Mr. Musgrove, will soon be packing up the supplies and mailing them to the children of Honduras.

Mini-Walk to Help the Homeless

On Thursday, October 11, 2007, the Kensington student body, teachers, staff, and parents participated in a Mini-Walk to support Shepard's Table at Progress Place in Silver Spring. After the regular Thursday chapel service at Kensington, students listened to a presentation from a representative from Shepard's Table. Then everyone walked around the campus to raise money for the homeless. GEDS raised $1,092.29 for Shepard's Table.
