The Enrichment Program is a five week skill building course designed by master teachers for students entering first through sixth grade. Students are grouped by age and grade level. Small class size provides optimal learning opportunity to reinforce and enhance writing, reading and math skills and concepts. Our talented and experienced teachers help students realize their academic potential. Mornings are focused on reading, writing and math. Participants will enjoy their afternoons on field trips that will include: swimming, outdoor exploring activities, and museums. Students will also engage in group projects that will inspire learning, creativity, and play.
Writers Workshop enables students to envelop and enhance their grammar, spelling and writing skills through daily creative writing experiences.
The Reading Program will develop reading strategies, comprehension and decoding skills, as well as, providing shared and personal reading time. Summer reading lists may be used as the text for those students with such needs. Grace School's extensive literature collection contains more than eight thousand titles available to our enrichment program.
Mathematics offers students extra instruction or enrichment in math skills and concepts. This program may vary from the use of manipulatives to the order of operations for problem solving to meet the needs of participants. A wealth of resources, texts and technology are available to the students. Our instructors individualize the program to meet students at their instructional level.
During the spring of 2008 each participant's current classroom teacher will be asked to complete and submit an evaluation of performance from the enrolled participant in three academic areas. The summer instructor will conduct additional informal assessments and prepare a plan for each child. Parents will receive a written evaluation at the end of the program. Open communications between the parent and the teacher is encouraged.
